Once again, Julie managed to throw a little drama our way. Remember when I complained about her letting her fourteen year old daughter drive alone? Tonight the phone rang and it was Julie calling Mike. Her daughter had been driving alone and got pulled over by the police. The officer was giving her a break and called Justin (Mike's oldest son) to come pick her up and tow the car. The details are unclear, but Julie said that Jus was getting arrested. I don't know if he had unpaid tickets or just a big mouth (like father, like son!). Julie wanted Mike to go over and take care of the situation. That is something Mike just can't get involved in. If it was just Justin, he would be there in a second. But the girl is another story...
I was really proud of Mica. Usually, when she gets upset, she closes up and it builds until she has a panic attack. Tonight, she talked to her mom and for the first time asked her direct questions about the situation and why she let it happen. I could tell she was very upset, but she controlled her breathing and used words to talk about her feelings. I think it was a real breakthrough for her. I tried to give her a lot of positive reinforcement, so I hope she continues to express herself.
We didn't tell Mikal or the other kids about what happened. Mica just happened to be sitting by Mike when her mom called. One bad thing about our phones is that they are very loud. Mica and I could both hear what Julie was saying ~ of course, it didn't help that she was SCREAMING.
The scary thing is that if the girls were with Julie, she would have sent them with M without a second thought. If the police pulled over the vehicle with a 9, 11 and 14 year old I doubt they would have been so accomodating. There is a good chance that all three girls would have ended up at the police station while they sorted everything out.
